Mask to Stay- Quarantine Update

Bracken County Schools appreciates the help and patience of all parents, staff, and students as we continue to get through the pandemic.  We are continuously trying to make sure we do what is best for our students to receive a successful education, while also nurturing them with compassion. With that being said, beginning on Monday, Nov 15, Bracken County Schools will be utilizing a new “Mask To Stay” policy.

If students are in contact with a positive case at school, they can continue to come to school, but only if they cooperate with wearing a mask for those 10 days.  The other option would be to continue quarantine at home for 10 days.  It will be the student’s responsibility to wear their mask properly or they may be forced to finish the quarantine at home.  Please note – if there is a positive case in your household, students must quarantine at home for 10 days.

Students and staff may discontinue these quarantine procedures after seven days — if they meet two basic criteria: one –they don’t develop symptoms and two – they test negative between days 5-7 at their primary care doctors office or a testing site. Essentially, students can discontinue wearing the mask after 7 days with a negative test or continue to wear it for 10 without a negative test.  Please remember this is all in accordance with being asymptomatic.  While parents and students are responsible for symptom monitoring, if school staff or school nurses see a child exhibiting symptoms, they should act accordingly. Those who are fully vaccinated can continue to remain in the classroom if exposed to COVID-19 in a school setting. Students will not have an option except to isolate at home if they do not follow these guidelines.

According to the KY Covid website we are listed in red this past evening and have made the decision to continue with strongly encouraging masking in school through next week as we monitor cases. While I am not saying that we will never go back to masks, I don’t feel like that is the right decision at this time.

If your student is currently quarantined, please note that Mindy Hamilton will be calling to let you know options for next week as this begins on Monday.
